Is the Advent of E-Batteries Making the Traditional Batteries Obsolete?

A gas engine requires a lot more energy to start. After that, the battery gets recharged, and the alternator maintains it. The electric car battery, on the other hand, requires less energy to start and more during the operation. They need more reserve capacity (refers to the amount of time a battery takes to provide 25 amps while maintaining 10.5 V) rating as against the gasoline engine.
  • A lead-acid battery usually is a 12V one with six cells. Each provides 2.1V via a chemical reaction between the submerged lead plate and surrounding acidic atmosphere. The lead batteries getting used in gasoline engines come with thicker plates. This is to facilitate faster movement of electrons providing the power at the time of starting the vehicle. For electric ones, however, thinner plates get designed as they don’t need the same level of initial energy. Instead, the battery should discharge slowly, deeply and recharge many times. So, the internal make of e-battery is different and has more cells.

Mostly, e-battery manufacturers are relying on Lithium-Ion batteries that discharge slowly and can perform under high temperature. However, some companies are designing lithium-based hybrid variants too. In this hybrid variant, they are trying to amalgamate the best of traditional and newer technologies.
